A slug is the readable part of a URL after the domain, such as /creme-brulee-recipe. It describes the page in a few words.

Should slugs use hyphens or underscores?

Google recommends hyphens to separate words in URLs. Underscores are joined into one word by some search engines.

Should I remove stop words from slugs?

Removing words like "the", "a" and "of" makes slugs shorter and cleaner, but keep them if the meaning becomes unclear.

Accents are converted to plain letters (é to e) and symbols are removed, so the slug works in every browser.
