How to create a favicon

Pick a simple, bold logo or letter — fine detail disappears at 16×16 pixels.
Drop the image above. Non-square images can be center-cropped or fitted with transparent padding.
Download each size (or all at once) and upload the files to your website's root folder.
Paste the HTML snippet inside your page's <head> tag, then hard-refresh the browser to see the new icon.

Frequently asked questions

Which favicon sizes do I really need?

32×32 covers most desktop browsers, 180×180 is used by Apple devices, and 192×192 plus 512×512 are required for Android and installable web apps. 16×16 and 48×48 improve sharpness in tabs and search results.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Resizing happens with your browser's canvas, so the file never leaves your device.

Why does my new favicon not show?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Clear the cache or open the site in a private window after replacing the files.

Do I still need favicon.ico?

Modern browsers accept PNG favicons. Keep an .ico only if you must support very old browsers.
